Beware! / The Scientists’ Revolt

1939

Edgar Rice Burroughs

Edgar Rice Burroughs penned a tale in 1922 that remained unknown until Ray Palmer, a pulp fiction editor, re-vamped the story in 1939 to have a futuristic theme. That tale was The Scientists’ Revolt and appeared in July issue of Fantastic Adventures. The story, either version, is not one of the Grand Master’s best efforts for several reasons: too short, a mystery (which is transparent), and seemingly incomplete. BEWARE! does not have the same polish ERB expended in his more famous tales such as Tarzan or Barsoom, but it is Burroughs and well worth the effort.
